Range Rules

A SASRL Range Officer will be physically present on all active ranges and focused at all times to monitor safety, enforce range rule compliance, and to ensure smooth range operations overall. Shooters and archers are asked to report any and all range violations or safety concerns to the Range Officer immediately. ANY RANGE RULE VIOLATION (OR OTHER UNSAFE OR INAPPROPRIATE ACT{S} OR CONDUCT) MAY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL FROM THE RANGE WITHOUT REFUND OF ANY KIND. DEPENDING ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES, VIOLATORS MAY ALSO BE PERMANENTLY BARRED FROM THE ENTIRE SASRL PREMISES AS WELL AS REPORTED TO LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT IF WARRANTED. The on-duty Range Officer has final authority for all range operations and any related disputes, to include determination and outcome of range rule violations and/or other unsafe or inappropriate act(s) or conduct. (SASRL reserves the right to refuse service to any individual who, in our judgment, would endanger the safety or wellbeing of our staff or customers.)

Indoor Firearms Range

Before entering and utilizing our indoor firearms range, each shooter will be required to sign a document stating that he/she has completely read and fully understands the SASRL range rules as listed below. Please contact us if there any questions or concerns regarding these rules:

1. Always keep firearms unloaded and your finger off the trigger until you are within your assigned shooting booth and ready to commence firing.

2. Uncase/unholster all firearms only while within the confines of your assigned shooting booth. No uncased/unholstered firearms are allowed anywhere else on the range or overall SASRL premises. No exceptions!

3. Commands issued by the Range Officer must be followed without delay. When the command of “CEASE FIRE” is given, you must do the following: stop shooting immediately; remove your finger from the trigger; keep the gun pointed downrange; and wait for further instructions from the Range Officer or other range personnel.

4. Adequate eye and ear protection must be properly worn at all times while on the range.

5. A maximum of two (2) people are allowed at each assigned shooting booth. All other guests or observers must remain behind the protective observation window.

6. No one is permitted to be forward of the firing line in any fashion at anytime regardless of the range firing status. Only SASRL personnel may go forward of the firing line once a cease fire is called or the range is officially closed.

7. Drawing/pulling firearms from holsters for direct firing is prohibited. Firearms must be placed on the front table of your assigned shooting booth before and after each immediate firing iteration.

8. In the event of any firearm malfunction beyond the shooter’s capability to rectify, you must do the following: immediately and carefully place the involved firearm on the front table of your assigned shooting booth; ensure the barrel is always pointed downrange; and then ask range personnel for assistance. Do not leave the confines of your assigned shooting booth with a firearm in a malfunctioned state or otherwise uncleared status. Always ask the Range Officer for assistance if unsure!

9. Never directly hand a loaded firearm to another person! Instead, place the firearm on the front table of your assigned shooting booth to allow safe pick up of the firearm there. At all times you must keep the firearm pointed downrange and your finger off the trigger until ready to fire.

10. The SASRL indoor range is designed to handle most handgun and rifle calibers up to .50 BMG. Please ask the Range Officer if unsure whether your firearm or ammunition may be used on the range.

11. All firearms present at the range must be in safe and full working order. Please note that the Range Officer may deny the use of any firearm at any time for any reason.

12. Ammunition utilized on the range must be of the correct type and amount for each firearm used. Factory-loaded ammunition is preferred; however, hand-loaded ammunition must at least adhere to manufacturer tolerance and safety specifications. Hot or over-powered loads are prohibited. Tracer, armor piercing, explosive, incendiary, steel cased, military surplus, corroded or dirty, or otherwise unsafe or defective ammunition is also not allowed anywhere on the range! Please note that the Range Officer may deny the use of any ammunition at any time for any reason.

13. Targets self-brought by shooters must be in good taste and not deemed offensive, defective, or unsafe in any manner. Self-brought targets must also be of the appropriate size and placed at the shooter’s eye level to ensure that fired rounds strike the range backstop and not the floor, ceiling, or target carrier. Please note that the Range Officer may deny the use of any target at any time for any reason.

14. Shooting at anything other than your own assigned lane target is strictly prohibited! Firing a shot (or multiple shots) that results in damage to any range equipment or non-backstop structure may result in a significant repair fee. Additionally, any intentional, accidental, and/or negligent discharge of a firearm resulting in injury to another person may result in significant civil and/or criminal liabilities against the shooter.

15. The consumption, use, and/or possession of any alcohol or alcoholic substance is strictly prohibited while on the range. Anyone observed to be under the influence of alcohol or any other mind-altering drug will not be allowed anywhere on the range. (For the purposes of this rule, “drugs” shall mean any illegal drug as well as any prescription medication if that prescription medication affects the judgment or safe conduct of the shooter.) Please note that the range officer may dismiss/bar any shooter at any time for any reason.

16. No smoking nor open flame is allowed anywhere on the range. (Smoking is prohibited in all SASRL facilities except for the clearly designated smoking areas.)

17. Food and tobacco of any kind are not allowed on the firing line; however, non-alcoholic beverages are allowed but only in closable/non-spillable containers.

18. When your shooting session is complete, unload and case or holster all firearms prior to departing the confines of your shooting booth.

19. Shooters under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times while on the range.

20 . Always treat your fellow shooters, your equipment, and range property with respect. Do not adjust or remove fixed targets. Be considerate of others. Practice good sportsmanship, use common sense, and have fun -- SAFELY!

Outdoor Archery Range

2. “Sky-drawing” is strictly prohibited. Bows may only be drawn pointing down range toward the targets.

3. Commands issued by the Range Officer must be followed without delay. When the command of “CEASE FIRE” is given, you must do the following: stop shooting immediately; remove and separate any arrow(s) completely from the bow; and wait for further instructions from the Range Officer or other range personnel.

4. Adequate eye protection must be properly worn at all times while on the range.

5. A maximum of two (2) people are allowed at each assigned shooting lane. All other guests or observers must remain behind the covered observation line.

7. Before firing an arrow, make sure your archery lane as well as the area behind your target is completely clear of any living creatures or objects that could endanger participants.

8. Do not nock an arrow until everyone is safely behind the firing line! Additionally, wait until the firing line has officially and completely ceased shooting before going down range to pull arrows.

9.  Treat a bow and arrow with as much respect as a firearm. No horse play at any time!

10. The intentional shooting of any living creature is not allowed anywhere on SASRL property at any time. Violators are subject to severe civil and criminal penalties in addition to permanent barment with no refund whatsoever.

11. All bows present at the range must be in safe and full working order. Please note that the Range Officer may deny the use of any bow at any time for any reason.

12. Arrows utilized on the range must be of the correct type and amount for each bow used. Factory-manufactured arrows are preferred; however, homemade arrows must at least adhere to manufacturer tolerance and safety specifications. Please note that the Range Officer may deny the use of any arrows at any time for any reason.

13. Targets self-brought by archers must be in good taste and not deemed offensive, defective, or unsafe in any manner. Self-brought targets must also be of the appropriate size and placed at the archers’s eye level to ensure that fired arrows strike the range backstop and nothing else. Please note that the Range Officer may deny the use of any target at any time for any reason.

14. Shooting at anything other than your own assigned lane target is strictly prohibited! Firing an arrow that results in damage to any range equipment or non-backstop structure may result in a significant repair fee. Anyone observed to be under the influence of alcohol or any other mind-altering drug will not be allowed anywhere on the range. (For the purposes of this rule, “drugs” shall mean any illegal drug as well as any prescription medication if that prescription medication affects the judgment or safe conduct of the archer.) Please note that the range officer may dismiss/bar any shooter at any time for any reason.

18. When your archery session is complete, unarrow your bow completely prior to departing your assigned archery lane.

19. Archers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times while on the range.

20 . Always treat your fellow archers, your equipment, and range property with respect. Do not adjust or remove fixed targets. Be considerate of others. Practice good sportsmanship, use common sense, and have fun -- SAFELY!
